Favorite quote:

A quote that has served as a guide for my life:

“People may not remember exactly what you did, or what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel.” - Maya Angelou

Favorite thing about Project GRAD Akron:

In pursuing my master’s degree, I knew I wanted to work in the public schools providing social supports to students and their families by designing impactful programs that changed lives.  Since 2005 I have been able to do this with Project GRAD Akron.  I believe in the mission and passionately pursue exposure and opportunities for students and families to achieve and succeed.  Also, I cherish the opportunity for interns to gain experience in school social work with PGA.

A little about Laurie:

I was born in Houston, Texas, and lived in Augusta, Georgia, before moving to Ohio when I was in high school.  I attended Kent State University and The University of Akron, completing my Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and my Master of Arts with a focus on educational and public administration.

My four children inspired me to be an advocate for public schools.  During their educational journeys I was actively involved in PTA and I served two terms on the Cuyahoga Falls City Schools Board of Education. I have worked within the public schools for 20 years, the last 15 with Project GRAD Akron.

I am married to my best friend, Scott, and have four children, two step children, and a new Grandson. My hobbies are cooking, gardening, spending time outdoors, and remaining active in social justice issues in my community.
