My greatest joy is hearing from our students who share how Project GRAD Akron has positively impacted their lives. I thoroughly enjoy working with PGA’s dedicated staff and team members, board members, volunteers, and other stakeholders, who are fervently and passionately committed to improving the lives of the students we serve and truly understand the GRAD Motto that Graduation Really Achieves Dreams!
A little about Jacqueline:
A native of Middletown, Ohio, Jacqueline “Jackie” Silas-Butler received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Political Science from The Ohio State University and a Juris Doctorate degree from The University of Akron School of Law. A licensed attorney since 1984, her service includes being an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney with the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, a Magistrate with both the Summit County Juvenile Court and the Summit County Domestic Relations Court, and an Adjunct Professor at The University of Akron, teaching Juvenile Law and Legal Research and Writing.
Jackie has always used her background and experiences to improve her community. She has served on leadership boards for many organizations, including President of the following organizations: The University of Akron Law Alumni Association, Akron Barristers Association, Akron Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Akron Roundtable, and the Young Adult Missionary Society of Wesley Temple AME Zion Church.
A past member of many Boards, commissions, and committees, she is currently an active member of the Arlington Church of God, Akron Bar Association, Akron-Canton Barristers Association, Akron Branch NAACP, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Leadership Akron Alumni Association, the Steering Committee for the College and Career Academies for the Akron Public Schools, Vice-Chair of the Summit County Human Resources Commission, to name a few.
She is married to Lawrence B. Butler, Jr., a retired music teacher from the Akron Public Schools, and they have one adult son. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, scrapbooking, genealogy, politics, and history.
