Favorite quote:

“I believe that education is the civil rights issue of our generation. And if you care about promoting opportunity and reducing inequality, the classroom is the place to start. Great teaching is about so much more than education; it is a daily fight for social justice.”

- Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education

Favorite thing about Project GRAD Akron:

I enjoy everyone associated with Project GRAD Akron, from its amazing leadership to its wonderful array of board members. Everyone brings something different to the table, but this diverse group of individuals is all committed to its mission. That mission is seen in its programs, from Bridge to Kindergarten to the Scholarship Program for graduating high school seniors. The Mentoring Program is exceptional – a true giving & getting experience for students and mentors, alike!

A little about Barbara:

I moved from St. Louis to Akron a long time ago. I was involved in the arts there and, in Akron, had a 24-year career with Tuesday Musical Association, retiring as Executive Director. Those years fostered endearing friendships, exciting experiences with the musicians presented, and a deep sense of ‘Community’ that still resonates deeply within me. It was through TMA that I met Jackie and Project GRAD Akron, and I fell in love with both.

I’m still involved in the arts, specifically Apollos’ Fire, a world-recognized Baroque Orchestra that I greatly admire.

Hobbies & passions are interchangeable. I adore food; I love to cook and am rather good at it. I enjoy gardening and watching my garden grow. Books are a passion; I am now addicted to audible ones. I am NOT keen on cleaning house – need I say more? And, always, I love my family.
