Favorite quote:

"You can’t know where you’re going until you learn where you’ve been.”
- Maya Angelou

I think this is so important because we need to be educated on the past and learn from those mistakes to maintain a healthy future.

Favorite thing about Project GRAD Akron:

I decided to support Project GRAD Akron because of its mission of promoting the importance of education. I love that PGA’s staff and volunteers are committed to the youth in our community in ensuring they have a brighter future.

A little about April:

I grew up in Copley, Ohio, and received a Mass Communications degree with a minor in Journalism from Kent State University. My professional background includes experience in communications, journalism, marketing and public relations, and my past positions include being the real estate writer for the Akron Beacon Journal, public relations coordinator for a local hospital, and writing manager for a national commercial development company. In my current position at FirstEnergy, I write and edit the monthly employee volunteer newsletter, write Employee Recognition articles, and serve as moderator and host for companywide leadership meetings and broadcasts. I also provide communications support for our Corporate Affairs and Community Involvement division.

In my spare time, I like gardening, reading, and playing the acoustic guitar. I’m also working on a novel. My husband, Mark, and I have two dogs: Kirbee (Cava-Shon) and Rocky (Shih-Shon) and Jinx! (Tabby cat).
