“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character–that is the goal of true education.”

Favorite thing about Project GRAD Akron:

I love working with the team at Project GRAD Akron. They are passionate and committed to student success—not only during high school, but also as students transition to college and enter the workforce. Watching students blossom and achieve their goals is an incredibly rewarding experience. I am proud to be a part of such and amazing team and organization.

A little about LaShonna:

Born in Barberton, Ohio then moving to Akron as a middle schooler, LaShonna Johnson attended Perkins Middle School and is a proud graduate of John R. Buchtel. Happily married to her high school sweetheart, they have four adult children and two grandchildren.

At a very young age LaShonna knew that she wanted to work with children. For 15 years, LaShonna owned and operated an in-home childcare business before transitioning to work outside of the home as a Programs Director at a local preschool and later as a Regional Coordinator overseeing two counties.

While balancing her roles as a wife, mother, business owner, high school cheer coach, and Program Director, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education Administration and a Master’s Degree in Special Education, both from Ashford University.

In her spare time, LaShonna enjoys spending time with her family, trying new restaurants, and traveling.
